Transparent Stains

While beautiful and ideal for highlighting the natural grains in the wood, it doesn’t do a great job of covering up defects in the wood. If there is old stubborn stain from a previous coating, or areas that have sap from a tree above, transparent may not be the best option for you!

Lack of pigment

Again, transparent stains are beautiful and do a wonderful job of showcasing the woods natural beauty, but they have a lack of pigment that is intentional. With that lack of pigment, you get less protection from the suns harsh UV rays. This translates to more frequent reapplications! The manufacturer suggests recoating transparent stains yearly, which is in line with the industry standard for transparent.

In Summary…

Transparent stains like honey, cedar, natural, and clear are absolutely marvelous to showcase the natural look of your deck or fence while also being the best at not absorbing heat, they also require annual maintenance to keep the beauty! The good news is that our maintenance coats are typically around half the cost of an initial application!
